What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
Feedback within our short film has been most important due to it helping us decide what we needed to change or how to improve work in the making. It didn't just benefit us on how to change, it benefited our audiences who watched clips or looked at posters. It allowed them to understand the message of homelessness and affect them like our audiences from the whole product would feel.
Our target audiences were people aged 16-25 which made feedback easier because we could use social media to reach people as this demographic age group use social media the most. Being in this age group it helped understand the topic easier.
We used a variety of different types of feedback so that we got a wider range of opinions:
- Interviewing people
- Survey monkey
- Asking people scripted questions
- Facebook messenger
These are the surveys from Survey Monkey.
Answer is maybe
Answer is yes and maybe
Answer is a bit
Answer is yes
We reacted to the answers and immediately ensured we applied these to our short film.
- Does the title 'The Magazine' for a short film, make you want to go and watch the film?
As the dominating response was 'maybe' for the title we decided to brainstorm new title names to fit the audiences preferences.
Here is a mind map of possible names:
Possible names included
- The Unexpected
- A day in the life of Louise
- Louise
- The Fur Coat
- Stalker
- Famous Flaws
- That Girl

4. Do you think using a time-lapse would be a good way to accelerate time in order to make our short film more engaging then boring?
Here is the time lapse:
Here is the interviewed feedback about the poster.
I asked somebody within our target audience questions about my poster when we were deciding which poster to put forward as the final one. I found getting feedback useful and interesting because he gave suggestions and opinions which I learnt from.
These are the questions I asked Jake:
Do you think this would be a good poster for our short film?
What do you think of the title, called "The Magazine"?
Do you think it fits in with the poster?
What do you think of the title, called "The Magazine"?
Do you think it fits in with the poster?
He also gave his own opinion on the poster and what could be improved on.
I learnt from the feedback that it's best to have a second or third opinion because you can see a different point of view which made me not choose my poster for our film.
Asking Scripted questions
We showed two people within our demographic target audience some questions about the idea of our short film and also showed them a clip of it.
This was useful because it gave us some perspective of how people felt about our film. By asking our actress questions it gave an insight to the filming production.
Here are the questions and answers.
What do you think of the use of the film poster as an element of our film making it a key aspect?
Louise: I really liked how you could see that the magazine was a key part of the film and how in the film my outfit linked to the film poster so it was like I was being followed in the film. Looked really good.
Megan: It was quite clever but because the film isn't finished I don't think you'd be able to tell that 'The Magazine' is the film poster until it actually comes out. Then it can be really effective and work well.
We showed you a clip of some our footage from when Louise was transformed into a different character. Do you think the transition was obvious from a 'normal' girl to somebody famous?
Louise: The use of the fur coat was effective as it showed me looking more glamorous and carrying the bags also gave the impression that I had money. Although I don't think it was that obvious as I could've just been shopping.
Megan: I think it could have been made more obvious by the use of people following her around, like Louise said it looks like she's just been shopping.
What do you think of the title 'The Magazine'? Does it comply to short film features?
Louise: It definitely makes you be intrigued by the title as you don't really know what it means. I don't think it complies to short film features though as there is no enigma or suspense, I'm not feeling completely shocked but it does link in well with the poster.
Megan: It is a good title because it links in well with the poster but I wouldn't expect a short film poster to be called that.
Self Feedback
We had feedback from our peers but we also gave our self feedback so that we could talk about what had worked well and what we were planning on changing. This helped us move forward as a group and conquer issues within the production process. Here is the video of us giving feedback.
This is OK so far, but be careful not to simply present feedback without analysis of every part of it to answer the question. The video above doesn't play on my mac at home, but may just be the mac - can you check it? You need to add the feedback from yesterday in the lesson to this now.
